Denene received an AAS in Biotechnology from Alamance Community College and a BA in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She is a research analyst at the Institute of Marine Sciences.  Her research interests lie in development of novel assays for rapid detection of fecal indicator and pathogenic bacteria and viruses.  She also assists with teaching in workshops at the Molecular Training Facility held at the Institute.
