Development of novel, rapid methods for microbial contaminants in water

In the coming decade, advances in rapid molecular detection and quantification methods will revolutionize the clinical medicine, water quality, and food safety disciplines. Our lab is working in the water quality and seafood safety arenas to develop and validate rapid quantification assays. Currently, there are a number of rapid molecular assays  that are ripe for governmental regulatory consideration, especially for water and seafood. While many other novel methods have been developed, one needs to compare and validate them prior to approval by regulatory agencies, particularly for real world applications. For those assays that are validated, there is a need for training and implementation. Our laboratory is working in both areas.
